The Phantoms returned to the ice on Sunday after a four week layoff and didn't show any signs of rust as they cruised passed the Zephyrs, 7-2. The Phantoms outshot the Zephyrs 45-16 as they improved to 3-1-3 on the season.
Mike Cardinal started off the scoring six minutes into the game with a flip shot over the Zephyr goalie. Damon Ray punched in a rebound to take a two goal lead and Chris Miles took one in on the goalie less than a minute later and beat the goalie shortside.
The Phantoms scored again early in the 2nd when Joe Thole took a pass and slammed it home. Paul Tischleder ripped one from the point later in the period and found the back of the net and the Phantoms held a 5-0 lead after two. Dan Mumm and Pete Morrow would add 3rd period goals to take a 7-0 lead, before the Zephyrs would get a couple late in the game to spoil Marc Massucci's shutout bid. Massucci stopped 14 of 16 shots on the game. The Phantoms will next face the Roadrunners, Sunday January 15th at Oscar Johnson. |
