The Phantoms went up against the division-leading Wild Sunday night, and sadly, there is no upset to report. The Wild jumped on the Phantoms early and built a 4-0 lead. The Phantoms once again tried to claw back into a game but their attempt fell short, despite a solid effort against a very good Wild squad, 4-2.
It didn't take long for the Phantoms fans to break out the paper bags as the Wild took the opening faceoff up ice and and took a 1-0 lead 11 seconds into the first period. The Phantoms didn't let the goal get to them however, as they didn't let the Wild score for the rest of the period. Unfortunately, they didn't manage to score one either.
The Wild would get a goal less than a minute into the second period and added two more in a 22 second span minutes later and the Wild suddenly had a 4-0 lead. The Phantoms finally got on the board later in the period when Pete Morrow took a nice feed from Nate Bonde (via Joe Thole) to cut the lead to 4-1.
The Phantoms would get one more goal in the third period by Justin Beverley, but it was too little, too late. The Phantoms now have two weeks off and then will face the Ice Hogs. The Phantoms opened the season with a 7-1 victory over the Hogs. |
